GROUND PROTECTION MATS FOR SALE

GroundMats.shop sells double-sided ½-inch HDPE mats in 3×8 and 4×8 sizes. Choose 4×8 mats for broader lanes, turns and work zones; choose 3×8 mats when gates or narrow side yards control the route. Prices start at $130 per mat at the 24-plus quantity tier.

CHOOSE THE MAT AROUND THE ROUTE.

Both sizes use the same practical foundation: ½-inch HDPE, deep tread on one side, lighter tread on the other, built-in handholds and four corner holes. Width and coverage are the deciding differences.

4×8 Ground Protection Mat

One panel covers 32 square feet. This is the better choice for primary equipment lanes, broader turns, loading areas and protected work zones where the route has enough width.

  • 32 square feet per mat
  • ½-inch double-sided HDPE
  • Four corner holes and built-in handholds

3×8 Ground Protection Mat

One panel covers 24 square feet. Use this size when a gate, side yard, landscaped entrance or other restriction makes a 4-foot-wide panel impractical.

BUY ENOUGH TO COVER THE WORKING ROUTE.

Start with length, then account for the places equipment slows down

Both mat sizes are eight feet long. For a straight one-mat-wide lane, divide the route length by eight and round up. A 100-foot run starts at 13 mats before adding anything for transitions, turns, staging areas or wider equipment.

The straight section is rarely the complete order. Walk from the unloading point to the work zone, measure the narrowest opening and note where the machine must turn, load or make repeated passes. Those areas usually need more surface coverage than an open straightaway.

Order-planning checklist

  • Measure the full route and the narrowest gate or passage
  • Confirm the machine width and required operating clearance
  • Mark turns, transitions, loading points and work zones
  • Account for soft, saturated, uneven or sensitive ground
  • Choose one size or a mixed layout before requesting freight

Use the ground mat quantity guide for route examples or the 3×8 versus 4×8 comparison when access width is the main question.

WHAT THE LOAD RATING MEANS.

Up to 90 tons when evenly distributed

The supplier rating is up to 90 tons when evenly distributed under rated conditions. That statement matters: a concentrated tire, track edge, outrigger or unsupported span does not load a portable mat the same way as an evenly distributed load.

Ground condition, moisture, slope, equipment weight, tire or track pressure, travel direction and support beneath the panel all affect performance. These mats are intended for surface protection and temporary access. They are not bridge panels, engineered crane mats or a substitute for properly sized outrigger pads and cribbing.

Review the ground protection mat weight-capacity guide before choosing a route for heavier equipment.

WHERE CONTRACTORS USE THEM.

Tree and landscape work

Create access for loaders, lifts and compact equipment while helping protect finished lawns.

Construction and excavation

Build temporary lanes and material routes across soft or sensitive areas.

Utilities and service access

Reach easements, service points and work areas away from pavement.

For layout details, read the installation guide and the temporary roadway guide before the crew unloads.

BUYING GROUND PROTECTION MATS

How much do ground protection mats cost?

Current 3×8 pricing is $165 each under 12, $145 each for 12–23, and $130 each for 24 or more. Current 4×8 pricing is $195 each under 12, $180 each for 12–23, and $160 each for 24 or more. Freight and applicable taxes are separate.

Which size should I buy?

Choose 4×8 mats when coverage and turning room are the priority. Choose 3×8 mats when gates, side yards or other restricted access points control the route width. Many contractors use both sizes to match changing route conditions.

How much weight can the mats hold?

The mats are supplier-rated up to 90 tons when evenly distributed under rated conditions. Actual suitability depends on equipment, load concentration, ground support, soil, slope, weather and installation.

How is freight calculated?
